The first Hearts of Hope were created in response to the national tragedy of September 11th, 2001. In one afternoon, more than 700 Hearts of Hope gifts were created for families from 9/11. Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton, New York, hosted this community-wide event and volunteers arrived by the hundreds to help. Stories were shared, tears were shed and kindness and caring filled the room. One day later, these “healing gifts” were packed into two SUVs and driven into Lower Manhattan where a temporary counseling center had been formed at the Engine 4 Ladder 15 fire station near ground zero.

Hearts of Hope Foundation, Inc. has created a movement of hope for more than 70,000 people who have received our services since this program began. Hearts of Hope gift recipients include people in hospitals, cancer centers, the military and communities like Newtown, Boston, Charleston, and Orlando. By the numbers, ten people touch every gift, from a block of clay all the way to the hands of a grateful recipient. This brings the total number of people touched by this effort to many, many more.

Hearts of Hope Foundation, Inc. was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity in 2005. This organization is based outside of Philadelphia, PA with chapters in Connecticut, Virginia and Washington State.
